About us

Senior engineers, one honest standard

OpenApex Labs is a web development and design studio built around a simple idea: the people who scope your project should be the people who build it. No layers, no handoffs, no shipping code we wouldn't defend in review.

The OpenApex Labs workspace
Our story

Started by engineers, not by an agency playbook

OpenApex Labs began the way most good software teams do — a couple of senior engineers who kept being called in to rescue projects other people had abandoned. Over time, the pattern became clear: the projects that succeeded were the ones where the same small team stayed involved from first conversation to launch.

So that's the model. We take on work we can stand behind, we scope it honestly, and we keep the team small enough that nothing gets lost in translation. More than 100 projects later, that hasn't changed.

  • Founder-led — the people who pitch are the people who build
  • Fixed scope and price agreed before a line of code is written
  • Weekly demos, so there are no surprises at the end of a build

What we value

Four principles we actually work by

These aren't wall posters. They're the reasons we turn work down and the reasons clients stay.

Honesty

If a deadline is unrealistic or an idea won't pay for itself, you'll hear it from us early — not after the invoice.

Craft

Fast, accessible, well-tested code. We care about the parts users never see, because that's what keeps products alive.

Partnership

We work as an extension of your team, not a vendor at arm's length. Your goals become the brief.

Longevity

We build for the version of your business five years out, not just the launch date you have in mind today.

Leadership

Subtain Ahmed

Founder & Principal Engineer

Subtain founded OpenApex Labs after a decade of building and rescuing software across finance, healthcare and commerce. He still leads architecture on client projects and reviews code weekly.

His rule for the studio is straightforward: every decision should be defensible to the client in plain language, with no jargon and no sales spin.

Placeholder — your quote here. We're only as good as the last thing we shipped, and we'd rather tell you what we can't do than pretend we can do everything.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

If yours isn't here, ask us directly — we answer every message.

Marketing websites typically start around $3,000, web applications between $8,000 and $30,000, and SaaS platforms from $15,000 upward depending on complexity and integrations. We'll give you a fixed quote after a short discovery call — not a vague range that changes later.

Most marketing sites go live in 2–5 weeks. Web applications and MVPs run 6–12 weeks depending on scope. We'll give you a milestone schedule before we start, and we keep to it with weekly demos.

Yes — a good share of our work is taking over or modernising inherited systems. We start with a short audit so you know exactly what you're paying for, then advise honestly whether to keep, refactor or rebuild.

React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and AWS for most builds. For content-led sites we work with WordPress and WooCommerce, and for commerce we build on Shopify or headless stacks. If your project calls for something else, we'll tell you why we'd choose it.

Every project includes 30 days of post-launch support at no extra cost. After that, most clients move onto a monthly maintenance or retainer plan covering updates, monitoring, security patches and development hours.

You do. Full ownership of the code and IP transfers to you on final payment, and we'll help with handover documentation if you ever want another team to take it on.

Work with a team that tells you the truth

One conversation is usually enough to know whether we're the right fit. No pitch deck, no pressure.
